As a brief introduction to gold, the American Gold Eagle is probably the most popular way to own gold bullion today. As opposed to the Gold Buffalo which is .9999 fine(24 Carat), the Eagle is 91.67% pure (22 Carat) with other metals added to help the coin maintain its integrity. As a result, it has a lower premium and therefore traded in higher volumes. The obverse of the coin was designed after the Saint Gauden’s design for the Gold Eagles struck in the early 1900’s and is an exquisite design. The Gold Eagles, like the Silver Eagle Program, began in 1986 and has been extremely popular and successful. They are available in different denominations (face values) and sizes: $50 One Ounce Coins, $25 Half Ounce Coins, $10 Quarter Ounce Coins, and $5 Tenth Ounce Coins and are all struck in both Uncirculated and Proof versions.
The Silver American Eagle is the biggest seller of all products in our store. It is the United States $1 Silver Bullion Coin. It is the most popular way to collect and own silver bullion. The main reason is that it is actual currency and harder to reproduce or counterfeit. It is very beautiful and desirable which is one of the reasons for its high premium and high demand. In fact, in 2009, due to the high demand for Silver Eagles, the US Mint did NOT produce a collectible Proof Edition of the coin in order to ensure that the demand for the uncirculated coins was met.
The Morgan Silver Dollar is considered by many experts and coin collectors to be the King of all collectible US coins. It contains .76 oz of silver and its beautiful design and features make it attractive for anyone in the coin collecting business. This program ran from 1878-1904 and then again in 1921 before it was replaced by the 1921 Peace Silver Dollar. Some of them are over 135 years old now.
